Sustainable fire safety: meet our new PFAS-free wet chemical fire extinguishers

As part of our continued commitment to sustainability and cutting-edge fire safety solutions, we’re proud to introduce two new PFAS-free wet chemical fire extinguishers to The Green Range from Commander and CommanderEDGE. Following extensive testing and research, our PFAS-free alternatives are both powerfully effective and better for the environment than their fluorine counterparts.

With the European Chemicals Agency proposing restrictions on PFAS in the EU, here we explain what makes our latest additions – the CommanderEDGE 3ltr and Commander 6ltr PFAS-free wet chemical fire extinguishers – perfect for sustainable Class F fire safety that doesn’t compromise on performance.

Redefining sustainable fire safety for commercial kitchens

Extensively tested and certified, our CommanderEDGE 3ltr and Commander 6ltr wet chemical fire extinguishers are specifically designed for use in commercial kitchens, catering, and canteen environments, supporting the risks posed by Class F fires (cooking oils and fats). Both models provide superior, sustainable fire safety, with a range of standout benefits:

High-performance ratings

Kitemarked to BS EN3, our new models ensure the highest standards of performance and reliability. Delivering high-performance fire ratings, the compact CommanderEDGE 3ltr unit combines portability with an impressive 8A 75F fire rating. Meanwhile, the larger Commander 6ltr model offers a higher A rating of 13A 75F, making it ideal for larger applications. 

Growing credentials with The Green Range

As environmentally-conscious credentials become a customer must-have, we’re phasing out a number of legacy products across our Commander and CommanderEDGE ranges. As part of this commitment, our two new PFAS-free wet chemical fire extinguishers are part of The Green Range and feature the distinctive green crosshair logo.

Specifically designed for Class F fires

By creating a foam-like layer on top of burning cooking oils or fats – common hazards in commercial kitchens and catering environments – our new wet chemical fire extinguishers effectively cool and extinguish Class F fires. This makes them ideal for settings such as school canteens, restaurants, bars, and other hospitality venues. 

Redesigned bell-bottom hose

Both the CommanderEDGE 3ltr and Commander 6ltr units come with a redesigned bell-bottom hose, providing superior extinguishing with better control and precision following the phasing out of the older lance model. In addition, every Commander and CommanderEDGE fire extinguisher comes with a five-year warranty, offering full peace of mind.

While there’s currently no immediate legal requirement to stop using PFAS-containing fire extinguishers, making the transition to PFAS-free fire safety products now ensures proactive compliance with future environmental legislation.
