At CheckFire, the environment has always been at the heart of our operations. And in 2024, we took significant steps to help make the fire trade as sustainable as it is safe, and stockists’ lives easier – from launching products that are kinder to the planet, to creating solutions that make recycling simpler.
As we move into 2025, we’re keen to elevate this commitment even further. We believe that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. So, with a suite of groundbreaking products and services on the horizon, we are reaffirming our pledge to advance environmental efforts within the industry. First, here’s a look back at our recent achievements, and a view of what’s to come.
One of our most exciting developments, The Green Range was launched in February 2024 – starting with the CommanderEDGE enviroFoam Fluorine-Free Foam range – offering our fire trade customers access to a range of fire extinguishers, products, and services designed to reduce the fire trade’s environmental impact.
In addition to providing more eco-friendly alternatives, this leap was about creating a full-circle, environmentally responsible supply chain that ensures every step, from production to disposal, aligns with sustainable practices. With this, we’re making it easier for our trade customers to satisfy end-user purchasing needs, contributing to sustainability goals without compromising on quality of performance.
Of course, it’s not a static product portfolio either. Throughout 2024, we added a host of new products to enhance The Green Range:
The introduction of our new and improved CommanderEDGE enviroFoam Fluorine-Free Fire Extinguishers marked a major milestone in our journey towards sustainability. PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) is a group of harmful synthetic chemicals traditionally used in firefighting foam, as well as a number of every-day household items, such as non-stick frying pans and waterproof clothing. While effective, PFAS poses serious environmental and health risks, contaminating water supplies, compromising human lives, and harming wildlife.
While some PFAS chemicals have been banned since 2020, the European Chemicals Agency is now proposing to ban all PFAS across the EU by 2030 – a crucial step in addressing the long-term damage caused by these substances. And as our commitment to being a trusted and reliable fire safety supplier continues, we’re proud to make strides towards eliminating PFAS from our fire extinguisher brands, Commander, CommanderEDGE and Contempo.
In line with our sustainability pledge and the proposed EU legislation, we have implemented a 2025 roadmap to discontinue all PFAS-containing products and replace them with fluorine-free alternatives. With this proactive shift, our trade customers can remain confident they will be fully compliant with future regulations when the UK follows with its own ban, while also protecting the environment and public health. We’re proud to lead the charge towards a cleaner, safer future for the fire trade while continuing to provide reliable and high-performance fire safety solutions.
From offices and hospitals, to schools and warehouse facilities, a wide range of environments can ensure effective fire protection without compromising environmental health.
The steps we’ve taken in 2024 are just the beginning. Sustainability and safety must go hand in hand, which is why we’re continuously innovating to deliver eco-conscious solutions that protect both people and the planet. As we move into 2025 and beyond, we remain dedicated to driving greater progress throughout the fire trade supply chain.
