EnviroFoam: A fire safety product to aid environmental targets

With the UK government regularly updating schemes and targets for carbon-saving measures, more and more businesses are turning to sustainability strategies and environmentally friendly products in their day-to-day practices. It’s true that the 20 warmest years on record have occurred in the last 22, sea levels are rising and extreme weather events are becoming more common – so it’s encouraging that so many businesses are taking note and make changes to the way they work.

Fire safety provision isn’t something that can be compromised or risks taken. However, now fire extinguishers can help businesses’ meet their objectives and strengthen their eco credentials.

Here, we take a look at the EnviroFoam extinguisher from CommanderEDGE and consider why it’s so groundbreaking.

What is EnviroFoam?

The market-leading extinguisher boasts an outstanding 27A 183B rating (no other AFFF foam extinguishers come close) and its foam concentrate is less harmful to the environment than regular foams.

It’s the ideal solution for Class A and B fire risk settings – including offices, retail, hospitals and supermarkets – that heavily feature flammable solids (plastics, wood and paper, for example) and liquids (petrol, diesel or paint, for example).

How to protect extinguishers

As explained in BS 5306 Standards, it’s the business or property owner’s responsibility to ensure all fire safety equipment is protected from accidental damage, corrosion and vandalism. That’s why we’re advocates of extinguisher stands, which are available to house a single extinguisher or two. Stands serve the purpose of safe fire extinguisher storage, while ensuring these vital pieces of equipment remain clearly visible and accessible at all times. The importance of keeping fire safety equipment protected shouldn’t be underestimated. Storage stands, cabinets and boxes, as well as anti-tamper seals, ensure as far as is possible that a fire extinguisher will work as it should in the event of a fire.

Installing all-important signage

Whether you’ve installed an EnviroFoam fire extinguisher or any other type, it’s compulsory to assign clear and visible fire exits, as well as sign post all necessary information about fire-fighting equipment. All staff or users of the building should receive hands-on fire extinguisher training. However, the need for fire extinguisher ID signs next to the units is critical – to account for instances where training hasn’t been given or simply to aid quick identification and understanding of the extinguisher in an emergency when every second is vital. Fire extinguisher ID signs are essential in protecting property and people.
